CEA TECH

Commissariat à l’Energie Atomique et aux Energies alternatives (CEA) is a French public body which is active in research, development and innovation in four main areas: low-carbon energies, defense and security, information technologies and health technologies. In each of these fields, the CEA maintains a cross-disciplinary culture of engineers and researchers, building on the synergies between fundamental and technological research.

The CEA LIST (Laboratoire d'Intégration des Systèmes et des Technologies), part of the Division of technological research (DRT or CEA Tech), is a research Institute which carries out research on intelligent digital systems with societal and economic implications. The 800 researchers, engineers and technicians from CEA LIST perform research work in partnership with the major industrial players in the nuclear, automotive, aeronautical, security and defense and medical fields and thus investigate and develop innovative solutions corresponding to their requirements. Within the CEA LIST, The Department Imaging and Simulation for Inspection (DISC), is a world leader leading research entity operating advanced NDT technologies, equipment and developing the CIVA simulation platform.

In this regard, CEA can provide the following technological capabilities:

Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) facilities within the AFH platform This WAAM set-up is based on Commercy-Robotique in the framework of the Additive Factory Hub (AFH) program. AFH integrates, develops and innovates the Additive Manufacturing technologies by federating in the same place competences and state-of-the-art means.

Welding means available on the WAAM process:

  • MIG-MAG CMT with a Fronius TPSi
  • TIG Fronius – 150A with filler metal
  • Plasma 150A with filler metal

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) facilities
CEA List covers major inspection techniques: Ultrasounds and guided waves, Laser Ultrasound, Eddy Current, Radiography and Tomography. The CEA already has a large amount of equipment for these different techniques, but many developments are also being carried out on new processes and control methods, sensors, instruments and processing algorithms for the detection of defects in different types of industrial parts.

CIVA platform simulation
CIVA is a multi-technique (Ultrasound, Eddy Current, Radiography...) software platform developed by the CEA LIST and its partners. This software provides simulations tools for these different techniques, but also other functionalities through different modules such as the analysis of UT acquisition data or Computed Tomography. Civa is distributed worldwide by EXTENDE and its LOCAL DISTRIBUTORS.
