The ISFA conference took place 8th and 9th of July 2020, a biennial summit on manufacturing automation and related technologies, provides a focused and intimate setting for dissemination and discussion of advanced manufacturing technologies and other related fields such as dynamical systems and control, logistics and informatics, and design and optimization. It features a synergistic blend of topics encompassing various aspects of manufacturing such as sensing and control, mechatronics, material design and synthesis, process modelling, lean manufacturing, diagnosis and prognosis, and emerging concepts including artificial intelligence, Internet-of-Things (IoT), cloud computing, and environmental sustainability, etc.
The theme of ISFA 2020, which this year was held online due to the COVID-19 situation, was "Flexible Automation: Intelligent and Transformative" and aimed to inspire research on empowering manufacturing systems with intelligence and on transformative ideas.
In addition to high-quality technical presentations, the conference included several plenary talks given by leading experts in manufacturing. On the second day of the event, and within the sessions dedicated to AM sensing and control, Dr Megahed Mustafa (ESI Group, INTEGRADDE project partner) presented the paper “Digital Thread for Direct Energy Deposition Towards Improved Part Quality and Quicker Qualification”.
